The Masjid was funded by a triad comprising of members from the local Muslim community, the Zubaida Talab foundation and aid from the Yukon Government Community Fund. The project was complete in October, 2018.

The day-to-day management of the Masjid is carried out by the Yukon Muslim Society’s Board of Directors that is elected by the community every two years.

The Masjid is surveilled by CCTV cameras 24×7 throughout the year. The Masjid can only be accessed through a code that is only shared with Muslim residents of Whitehorse. If you are/aren’t a resident of Whitehorse and wish to visit or pray, please contact us.

Muslim cultures differ considerably on the inclusion of women in Masjid spaces. There is a general concern, however, that the genders should be separated to reduce the natural possibility of distraction during worship. Women’s sections have evolved over time as a result of pragmatic customary practices. A separate space in our Masjid allows women to come and go without any disturbance to their privacy and also without disturbing the prayers of others in case they’re accompanied by young children.

The Yukon Muslim Society Masjid is independent of any political direction. To maintain inclusivity it takes no position on any political issue, and sermons are non-political.
