Nestled in the embrace of the Yukon’s mountains, and named after the unique way in which the rapids of the Yukon River appear, resembling the mane of a white horse, the city of Whitehorse is home to about 150 Muslims. The mountains, rivers, forests and lakes of the Yukon lend it a unique spiritual allure that captivates the soul. Driving around the city, taking a walk on one of the numerous trails or when on a hike in the forest, a believer cannot help but exclaim the verses of the Quran, “To Allah belong the east and the west, so wherever you turn you are facing ˹towards˺ Allah. Surely Allah is All-Encompassing, All-Knowing.” (Surah Al Baqarah, Verse 115) and “Our Lord! You have not made these things in vain, Your Grace, so save us from the torment of the Fire.” (Surah Al Imran, Verse 191). The Yukon is conducive to a level of spiritual nourishment that is perhaps unparalleled in other parts of the country. Although significantly smaller when compared with Canadian Metropolises, the Muslim community in Whitehorse is beautifully diverse, comprising of people from various ethnicities and backgrounds and always more than happy to support and help when required.

The Yukon Muslim Society is a Non-Profit organization (CRA Approved—RegD# 83784 6583 RR 0001) that manages the first ever Masjid (Mosque) built in the Yukon. Established in 2018, the Masjid caters to the spiritual needs of the community, with services, events and programs organized throughout the year. Operating a Masjid with a relatively small community and thereby constrained funds is not easy, hence, your support in the form of regular donations is solicited. Every dollar donated helps proclaim the word of Allah in this northernmost region of the world, in the land of the Midnight Sun.
